Avalon Kennels was esablished in 1965 with the purchase of Am/Can/Mex CH Zodiac Kashmir, CD WC.  We were so impressed with Kashmir; we purchased her younger sister Zodiac Kismet, UD WCX TD. With the addition of their parents, FC Quiet Hills Traveler WC (FC Nat'l FC Traveler Swift son) and Nasssau's Lady Fair (FC Nassau daughter), the kennel was off to a sound start. Our first 12 years were primarily spent in the field. We ran Traveler in the field until he was 13 years old. Kashmir founded our confirmation line with breathtaking movement, correct shoulders and expressive eyes. Kismit excelled in working blinds and triples in the field. She was completely trained in Schutzhund I, but had the excellent temperament of a Labrador. Her son "Jingo" was one of the first drug detection dogs and carried a bounty "Dead or Alive" of  $10,000 offered by the underworld.
The years have brought many high points, including Am/Can CH Avalon's Invincible. "Vader" rated nationally in the top ten for 3 straight years, and was awarded a judge's Award Of Merit at the Labrador Retriever Club Of America National Specialty. His daughter was Winner's Bitch at the same show. In "Basic Guide To The Labrador", written by breeders who know the breed and published by Dace Publishing, he is listed in the Hall Of Fame. Carole Coode of England in her book "Labrador Retrievers Today" lists Avalon Kennels as one of the top kennels in the United States.
